Additional Property Attributes

The City of Oakridge is a small rural community in Oregon with limited resources, and currently does not have the funding to assess the level of PCBs contaminants in the Industrial Park Log Ponds. Once the assessment is complete, it will allow the City to mitigate the ponds if there are any contaminants, or to further develop the log ponds as part of theindustrial park. A number of people use the ponds for recreational fishing. Because of the potential risk to anglers who consume fish impacted from contaminants in the pond sediment, the City would like to reduce that risk. Additional assessment of fish is necessary to address the problem and to complete the last remaining cleanup task for the Oakridge Industrial Park.

Former Use: The site had been used as a log mill site from 1945 until it was purchased by the City of Oakridge around 1993 with a USDA Grant. The property was acquired from the Bald Knob, and Pope and Talbot Lumber Company. It was reported to the city that some transformers exploded and landed in the log pond. Through previous investigation it was determined that the pond was contaminated with PCBs.
