Additional Property Attributes

Site was identified on both the District of Columbia Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) and Underground Storage Tank (UST) database but no indication of USTs were found during the pahse 1 assessment. The facility is paved with asphalt indicating that storage tanks may have been improperly abandoned at the site and may still exit, hence it has to be considered as a Recognized Environmental Condition (REC).

Former Use: The site consists of a 0,20 acre of land with a parking lot located immediately southwest of the intersection of Riggs Road and 1st Place, in the Brookland neighborhood in the North East quandrangle of Wahington DC. The site is located in a mixed-use area consisting of commercial and residential land uses. To the north, the site is bounded by Riggs Road followed by undeveloped, wooded land. To the East, 1st Place, NE followed by the Kingdom Light Christian Church and train track; to the South by building under construction and to the West, by Wooded land followed by Keene Elementary School. The site is currently owned by Dominion Church of Washington DC. Surface drainage on the paved areas of the site is facilitated by municipal storm drains located along the curb-and-gutter in the streets surrounding the site. The site was owned by Warren W. Smith from 1936 to 1948; followed by a Sunoco Station from 1969 through 1983 but currently owned by the Dominion Church of Washington DC. Land use at the site prior to 1936 is unknown. The historical use of the site was mainly gas stations.
