Additional Property Attributes

The Site consists of the Strand Theater building with a sorrounding area consisting of commercial and residential land uses. The historical use of the building as a pharmacy and doctors office among others and the proximity of BP service east of the Site and the Betty Cleaners 40 feet west of it is a reason to identify the Site as a REC. Also 160 feet west and topographically crossgradient, is the Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church which is listed for a release of heating oil to soil on February 28, 1994. In line with this is the Olympia Baakery which is about 250 feet north and topographically crossgradient relative to the Site. This property is a LUST case that was opened in July 10, 1990 forthe release of gasoline to the soil, but is currently a closed case.

Former Use: This Site consists of the Strand Theater building at the southwest corner of Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave., and Division Ave., NE and is a two story building which covers the entire parcel and is currently boarded and vacant. The fire insurance maps reveal that the Site building was constructed in 1928 and appears to be vacant by the year 2000 while the BP fueling station east of Division Avenue has been present since at least 1960. The Betty Brite Cleaners situated approximately 40 feet west of the Site has been there since at least 1993. The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue website indicates that the Site is owned by the District of Columia. The past uses of the Site as determined by a review of reasonably ascertainable historical information include a vacant lot in 1927 to the Strand Theater which housed a movie theater, pool room, dance hall, pharmacy and doctor's office in 1928 to a Site vacant building from 2000 to present.
