Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Describe the nature and extent of contamination (to the extent possible): During normal operations, this site, formerly known as AroChem, processed natural gas liquids (NGL; also known as condensate or light crude) to produce petrochemicals including benzene, toluene, xylene, and cyclohexane. Gasoline blending stocks and heating fuels were produced as side products, but there was no blending or sale gasoline. The NGL was obtained from natural gas processing, and was not as abundant as normal crude, hence condensate processing plants were uncommon. The facility consists of three groups of processing units: A refinery operation group which included condensate fractionation, and produces naphtha and petroleum fuels, including gasoline blending stocks; a petrochemical separation group which extracted aromatic compounds from the refined naphtha by means of a Sulfolane unit and produced benzene, toluene, and xylene (collectively, BTX) by distillation; and a group of two petrochemical conversion units that converted toluene to benzene and benzene to cyclohexane.
