Additional Property Attributes

This building was used as the Spencer County Jail from 1940 to 1994. Since 1994 the building has been used by the County for storage. Historical records indicate that three underground storage tanks were historically present on the property in different locations. During the Limited Subsurface Investigation, results indicated that groundwater and soil is not impacted near two of the reported UST locations. According to the December 2014 Phase II, benzo(a)pyrene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, and naphthalene were detected in the shallow soil near the southeast portion of the property at concentrations exceeding the IDEM RCG residential screening levels. Asbestos containing materials were found in several locations throughout the building Lead-based paint was also found in numerous locations. The old jail was demolished in July 2016. The property now consists of a public gravel parking lot.

Former Use: The property was used as a County Jail from 1940 to 1994. The structure was demolished in 2016 and currently a gravel parking lot.
