Additional Property Attributes

The US EPA tasked Tetra Tech, Inc. to conduct a Phase II ESA of the site under the Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contract EP-S5-13-01, Technical Direction Document (TDD) No. S05-0003-1507-200. The property is currently partially utilized as a rail logistics and storage facility. These operations are contained within two buildings on the site and accounts for less than 11 percent of the total useable acreage. A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment determined that several recognized environmental conditions existed at the site and recommended that a Phase II ESA be performed. The Phase II ESA was performed and included sampling of soil, groundwater and sediment in two drainage ditches at the site. The site was evaluated to the Ohio Voluntary Action Program (VAP) and found that the soil and groundwater at the site indicated detections of compounds of concern, however the detected concentrations meet the applicable VAP General direct contact soil standards, Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR) soil saturation limits, and and unrestricted potable use standards for groundwater. Concentrations of volatile organic compounds and/or total petroleum hydrocarbons detected in sediment samples from the two drainage ditches exceeded the VAP residential GDCSS and BUSTR soil saturation limits. Thus, remediation of the sediment in the two drainage ditches is warranted.

Former Use: The site was first developed in 1966 as a manufacturer of fiberglass-reinforced auto parts. Occupants included Goodyear (1966-1997), Cambridge Industries (1997-2000) and Meridian Automotive (2000-2007). The property has been unoccupied since operations ceased in 2007. The property consists of the former plant area, which covers the south-central poriton of the property, and a parking lot in the northwest portion with undeveloped field areas across the remaining areas. The property also contains two main drainage ditches flowing in the general west to east direction. The ditches flow off-site to a drainage ditch located adjacent to the railroad tracks bordering the eastern boundary, and then from there to the Little Salt Creek located approximately one-quarter mile east of the property.
