Additional Property Attributes

Chemical warehouse destroyed in fire in 1979, Below state-regulated reporting conditions discovered based on Phase II analytical results.

Former Use: The property located at 101 Olive Street was owned by Reynolds & Markman Inc. (R&M) from 1958 until the City of Attleboro purchased the property in May of 2013. R&M purchased the property from Edith Richards in 1945. Two buildings were formerly located in the southern portion of the property. One was: a 5,712 square foot, concrete/cinder block warehouse built in 1942 and used for the storage of chemicals, and the other was a 4,800 square foot metal warehouse built in 1979 and used for retail and office space, and some storage. A third building was formerly located due east of the retail building and partially on the adjoining land owned by MBTA. This building was used for chemical storage, and burned down in 1989. According to archived news reports, over 1,500 people were evacuated during the fire due to potentially toxic smoke. The warehouse reportedly contained nearly 100 drums of cyanide and other chemicals.
