Additional Property Attributes

Old Police Station property with a small park along Main Street.

Former Use: The Site was developed by at least 1871 with a typical downtown storefront block occupied by dry goods, candy, clothing, drug, jewelry, and book stores. These stores were later converted to billiards and a Masonic Hall by 1905. By 1925, the entire block had been demolished and the Site was undeveloped until construction of the current Site building and two other storefront buildings along the southern property line prior to 1946. These stores were occupied by variety, drug, and shoe stores through the 1960s. The buildings remained vacant until the Somersworth Police Department occupied the Site in the 1972. The police department operated at the Site through 2008, and despite interior demolition and renovations, the Site has remained vacant since.
