Additional Property Attributes

The three-story apartment building and courtyard has been vacant and unoccupied for two decades. Part of the southwest exterior wall was damaged when a former chimney collapsed due to excessive water damage. The building was built in 1913 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property to the Lewistown Central Business Historic District. The property is located in the middle of downtown Lewistown on a prominent corner. The Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) owns the property and would like to rehabilitate the building into functional apartments. MPA has been conducting visioning sessions with the community to help identify the appropriate reuse. Results for the Phase II ESA found asbestos-containing material (ACM), lead-based paint (LBP), and mold in the building.

Former Use: The three-story apartment building was built in 1913, but has been vacant since at least 1986. The building has brick exterior with stone foundation. Plaster, electrical, and plumbing have been removed from the building. Part of the southwest elevation was damaged when a former chimney collapsed due to excessive water damage. There have been 7 different property owners since 1954. Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) most recently purchased the property in 2015 from Broadway Restoration, LLC. MPA would like to abate the contamination, restore the historic building and put it back into use.
