Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Based on a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment dated September 2013 (completed under Grant Number BF-97384801-0), the George-Sherrard Paper Company constructed a paper manufacturing facility on the subject property between 1904 and 1907. The facility primarily produced paper and flour bags through 1967. Hammond Bag & Paper acquired the property on or before 1946 and Hudson Pulp & Paper Company acquired the property on or before 1960. The subject property sat vacant for several years until 1972 when GenPak Corporation began operations as Mammoth Plastics on the site. Mammoth manufactured injection molded plastic products, including buckets and containers until 1992. In 1992, Vie-Con Industries Steel Services, Inc. acquired the property, performed machining operations, and ceased operations in 1993. Fireap, owned by Mr. Jack Kins, then operated on the subject site between 1994 and 1997 fabricating diamond-plate accessories for automotive vehicles. NRI acquired the property in 1997 from Mr. Kins. NRI ownership uses the site to cut and store bulk paper merchandise for NU-Tex. Historical operations at the facility have included on-site storage and use of fuel oil as well as other hazardous products typically used in plastics and paper manufacturing. Project halted in September 2017 when fire destroyed much of the building. To date (September 22, 2020) property owner has yet to comply with City of Wellsburg ordinance to raze the remains of the building and clean property.
