Additional Property Attributes

The Site is approximately 0.8 acre in size and is located on the south side of Historic Route 66 in Peach Springs. The properties surrounding the Site include municipal offices, a cultural center, commercial retail and gas stations, a hotel, undeveloped land, and a railroad as discussed in Section 3.3 and displayed on Figure 2. One currently unoccupied building formerly used as a gas station is located on the Site. Other features observed at the Site include two partially intact fuel dispenser islands, remnants of two former concrete foundations located south of the building, and several debris piles.

Former Use: The Site is the former John Osterman Gas Station, which was constructed in approximately 1922. The original owner of the building reportedly lived in the attic/loft area on the second floor. It is unclear when the gas station ceased operation; however, the facility was no longer in operation when the roof was replaced in 2007 and has been unoccupied since operations ended. Several other buildings, including a residence, were located on the Site, but had been demolished by 2010. A review of historical aerial photographs indicates minimal activities or changes occurred at the Site and in the site vicinity after 2010. The site building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places (National Register Information System ID# 09000543) in 2012.
