Additional Property Attributes

The Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas hired Terracon to conduct a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment at the property located southeast section of Tribal Trust Tract 17, 100th Street in Horton, Brown County, Kansas. After the Phase I was conducted, Terracon did identify a recognized environmental condition (REC) or potential for hazardous substances as "potential releases associated with historic use of the site as a municipal surface dump with illegal dumping". After thorough investigation and review by the Kickapoo Environmental Office, additional sampling is required, perhaps a subsurface investigation.

Former Use: The site is an approximate one acre of vacant wooded area located in the southeast section of Tribal Trust #17, 100th Street in Horton, Brown County, Kansas. Based on historical review, the site is currently utilized as an outdoor recreation area. According to the interview portion of the investigation, the site was utilized for illegal dumping. Due to the unknown nature of the waste that has been disposed of at the site, the use of the site for illegal dumping is considered a REC. Based on information obtained from the Brown County assessor's records, the current site owner is USA in Trust for the Kickapoo Tribe.
