Additional Property Attributes

The Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas contracted out Terracon Consultants to perform a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at the property located west central section of Tribal trust Tract #10 in Horton, Kansas. According to the ESA, recognized environmental conditions (RECs) or the possible presence of hazardous substances was identified as "historic and current use of the onsite cistern for illegal dumping" which constitutes as a REC. Tires were also found on-site. Due to the REC identified during the Phase I, the Kickapoo Environmental Office hired Terracon to conduct a Phase II investigation. During the Phase II Terracon did both soil and groundwater sampling. Four (4) soil samples and four (4) groundwater samples were taken to get analyzed and tested for possible contamination. The soil samples were analyzed for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), total petroleum hydrocarbons diesel range organics (TPH DRO) metals. The groundwater samples were analyzed for VOCs. After analyzing the samples by an accredited laboratory, the results did not pose a health risk given the use of the property. The tires and the debris (found in the cistern) on-site were removed and disposed of at a local transfer station. After thorough review and verification by the Kickapoo Environmental Office, the property is cleared and no additional investigation or sampling is required at this time.
