Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Weirton Printing & Publishing Company began publication of the Weirton Daily Times in December 1943. The company acquired the subject property shortly thereafter in January 1944. In the late 1960s, Thomson, Bush, Moore Newspapers, Inc acquired the Daily Times, began expanding and renovating the buildings on site. Ogden News Publishing acquired all properties in 1997 and ceased printing operations soon after. The building was shuttered in the 2010s and is vacant. The Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle (BDC) in cooperation with the West Virginia Northern Community College are interested in renovating the building as a Workers Training Center. The BDC in partnership with Region XI the Brooke-Hancock Regional Planning & Development Council are seeking workforce development funds from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (US EDA), West Virginia Community & Technical College System (WV CTCS), and WorkForce West Virginia to create an intern/apprenticeship program. The training center will lead to creation and retention of jobs, increase private investment, and advance innovation that will enhance the manufacturing capacities of the Weirton, WV Metropolitan Area. The US EDA, WV CTCS, and WorkForce West Virginia training programs support bottom-up strategies that build on regional assets to spur economic growth and resiliency.
