L'Bel Cour (aka, Barnesville) is a complex of multi-family housing in Belcourt, North Dakota, on the Turtle Mountain Reservation. The site is about 10 acres in size and has a total of 19 buildings built in 1965/66 that contain 2 or 4 individual units per building. Roughly half of the structures are vacant. EPA conducted a phase II Targeted Brownfields Assessment on the vacant homes and confirmed the presence of asbestos containing materials. TBAs have been completed on Buildings 1-9 and soils throughout the site have been assessed. The tribe would like to abate the asbestos, demolish the vacant structures and reuse the property for new housing. Buildings 2, 6, and 9 have been cleaned up. Buildings 1,3 5, 7, and 8 will be cleaned up in late 2019/early 2020. Building 4, which did not contain asbestos, burned and the debris has been removed.
