Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment received a Brownfields application from the City of Lucas for their property located at 201 S. Main St. in Lucas, KS. They requested a Phase I BTA for Lucas Civic Center BTA project. The application was approved on October 29,2018

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the above referenced property in Lucas Kansas. Based on the Phase I report, no "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) were identified at the property. No further investigation is needed through the Brownfields Program and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Business Environmental Risks (BERs) were found during a NESHAP Limited Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint (LBP) Survey. Based on the information collected during the survey, asbestos containing materials (ACMs) were identified as 7 square feet of asbestos duct covering (60% chrysotile), drywall joint compound (3% chrysotile) throughout the building, window glazing/caulking around 3 glass block windows (8% chrysotile), all roofing under the new membrane roof assumed ACM, and beige and yellow sheet vinyl (20% chrysotile). Lead-Based Paint was identified as white paint on metal (12.5 mg/cm2), yellow paint on metal (6.8 mg/cm2), black paint on metal (6.5 mg/cm2), gray paint on metal (15.6 mg/cm2). Abatement of the ACM may be required prior to demolition.
