Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Goshen Electric Light and Power Co. and the Kolb and Gross Lumber Yard were listed as the first occupants of the Site in the 1885-1886 City Directory. The Site remained as a lumber yard through the end of the 19th century. The Property is shown as being vacant on Sanborn maps dated 1901 and 1905. On the map dated 1911 the Site is shown as being occupied by the Hawks Electric Light Co. The majority of the Site has remained occupied by various electric power companies throughout the 20th century, although the west portion has also been occupied at times by storage buildings used by the State of Indiana and Elkhart County Highway Departments. The Site�s current owner, the Northern Indiana Public Service Company NIPSCO is listed as the occupant of the Site in 1945. Records from the Elkhart Township Assessor�s Office, Elkhart County Auditor�s Office, and the Elkhart County Recorder�s Office indicate portions of the Site were transferred to NIPSCO by 1930.
