Additional Property Attributes

The County's assessment dollars were utilized to evaluate the four former underground storage tank areas, which will required Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations BUSTR No Further Action NFA letters prior to completion of the VAP process. The soils investigated as part of this assessment are impacted with VOCs, PAHs, and TPH as a result of the USTs.

Former Use: The former Midland Steel property is a pilot project for the City of Cleveland's Industrial Land Bank. The Assessment Grant monies will be utilized to complete the Phase II ESA activities to apply for No Further Action status under the OEPA Voluntary Action Program. The goal of the Industrial Land Bank program is to strategically assemble properties, which can be marketed and sold as shovel-ready sites for development. National Car Wheel Company, first user, purchased property on February 23, 1911. By 1923, Midland Steel Products Company began operations between 1912 and 1913. Midland Steel manufactured trolley and wagon parts, bicycle sprockets and seats, watch cases, rails for the Model T automobile, lamppost, steel beer barrels, refrigerator, an automobile s. During World War II the company manufactured jeep and heavy-truck s and Sherman tank hulls, gun mounts, outriggers and anti-aircraft guns...On January 2003 Midland Steel Products Company filed a chapter 11 petition to United States Bankruptcy Court.
