Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Property has been owned by Escambia County since the 1940s, with various County agencies operating since 1956. The Mosquito Control Agency has operated since 1985. In 1986, two 3,000-gallon steel underground storage tanks (USTs) used to store leaded gasoline and diesel fuel were closed in place by filling with bentonite. In May 1987, Escambia County submitted a Discharge Reporting Form and applied restoration coverage of the contamination associate with the USTs under the State of Floridas newly enacted Early Detection Incentive (EDI) Program. An EDI inspection conducted by FDEP in 1987 detected gasoline odors in the ground water as well as Cythion (malathion). The site was found eligible for the State-funded cleanup under the Abandoned Tank Restoration Program. In May 2006, the site consultant completed a Phase II ESA for the facility, which revealed petroleum and pesticide constituents, which exceeded CTLs and recommended further testing to define the extent of the contamination. Concern that properties adjacent to the site may have been impacted, based on ground water modeling, prompted sampling of ground water on these properties. Results are pending. (PPF-5/2/07)
