Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: This site is situated on the waters of the Elk River in Fork District, Webster Springs and was used as a stockyard for the railroad. The property has been owned by Pardee and Curtin Lumber Company since about the 1960's and was previously owned by Western Maryland Railroad Company. The property was used primarily as a freight (also some passengers) depot from about the 1920'2 into the 1990's. There were once grain/flour storage silos at the site. Freight brought into the site included groceries, hardware, farm supplies, etc. A variety of goods was shipped out, but the for much of the time the primary outgoing goods were wooden fence rails. A portion of the property and some adjoing property was used from about the late 1950's until the 1990's as a rail mill. Most of the property was used for log and fence rail storage. In addition, a portion of the property was used for a portable coal loadout facility with truck scales. Coal was transported to the loadout facility via trucks that were weighed on the scales. The coal was then loaded onto outgoing train cars for shipment.
