Additional Property Attributes

The Melton properties are located in the Old Textile Corridor of Rock Hill, SC. A historic iron foundry and machine shop was operated on two of the four Melton parcels from which metal slag was observed on the ground surface on these parcels. Two drums labeled "#10 insulating oil" were observed on one parcel. Sanborn Maps indicated the operation of a 200-gallon UST on one parcel. Evidence was observed during the Phase I ESA for potential site impacts.

Former Use: The property contains four individual structures of which one is occupied by Melton Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. and the remaining three are vacant. Previously, a large portion of the property was owned by Alexander F. Fewell. From the 1960s to the present the subject property has been utilized for commercial use, including a used auto sales lot, Melton Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., and the Saltwater Seafood Market. Prior to the early 1960s, the property contained dwellings, Jones Iron Works and Machine Shop, a Ginnery, and cotton seed houses. Adjacent properties include a former textile mill to the east and a printing and finishing facility to the north. The textile mill has a history of dyeing operations, coal storage, cotton storage, and a former feed and fertilizer warehouse. The printing and finishing facility has a history of groundwater contamination and RCRA generator violations. A monitoring well was observed northeast of the subject property at the upgradient Springs Parking Lot located at 158 Wilson Street North. No sampling results have been indentified for the well.
