Additional Property Attributes

The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department is marketing the Avison Industrial Site in its Certified Industrial Site Program.

Former Use: The 54-acre property is south of downtown Molalla in a predominantly residential area, although the site is zoned for industrial use. The site is currently vacant except for a small office building located at the north boundary along 5th Street. Outside of the northwest site corner where industrial activity recently occurred, the site is undeveloped and vegetated. The southern portion of the site contains significant wetland habitat. Bear Creek lies near the southern property boundary. The facility produced lumber from the mid-1950s to the early 1990s. From approximately 1973 to 1983, a pentachlorophenol and water solution was applied to lumber to prevent mold growth during shipping. The solution was contained in two dip tanks located on the northwest part of the property. Following closure of the site mill (Mill #1), the site has been largely vacant other than an on-site office used by the site owners. A small concrete batch plant, and trucking operations have more recently occupied the site, but it is currently vacant, and access to the northwest site corner restricted. The site is believed to have been owned by the Avison Lumber Company since the 1950's.
