Additional Property Attributes

The McArthur Dairy facilities, which are operated, managed, and owned by Dean Foods Inc. is a major employer within the South Florida area, and is a major employer specifically in Little Haiti (200 employees) since 1950, and is located in the heart of the EPA Brownfield Area Wide Assessment Grant recipient area. The City of Miami holds a significant interest for McArthur Dairy to remain at the current location and continue to provide jobs for City of Miami residents. Due to their commitment to address environmental issues that could potentially affect the surrounding community by previously spending over 300,000 to address numerous former UST sites within the property boundary, Economic Initiatives is willing to assist McArthur Dairy as an incentive to remaining in the neighborhood. The McArthur Dairy facility removed a total of nine (9) USTs throughout the 5 plus-acre facility and has abandoned in place one (1) additional tank to bring the total number of former USTs to 10. Prior to 2006, McArthur Dairy conducted confirmation samples at each UST area which resulted in removal of over 408 tons of soil and 43,459 gallons of dewatering fluids. Although these actions were taken, residual traces of petroleum contamination with hazardous metals were detected in follow up samples. The City of Miami, as an incentive for McArthur Dairys continued presence in the Little Haiti Community, and to prevent the abandonment of a large facility that may contribute to blight to the neighborhood if it were to leave, Economic Initiatives requested approval from EPA to use grant funds to assist McArthur Dairy in the complete delineation of the remaining contamination that is scattered about each former UST area.
