Additional Property Attributes

The City of Miami Right of Way at 5520 NE 4 Ave is under monitoring only phase. The Right of Way is adjacent to a private owned business and residential properties. The Right of Way contained a former underground storage tank (UST) that leaked petroleum contamination into soil and groundwater. Excavation of soil occurred as a preliminary measure to address the contamination, however the groundwater was contaminated as well, and since 2005 no additional action occurred to address the petroleum constituents detected in groundwater. The City of Miami excavated soil from the site in 2001 followed by post excavation monitoring of the groundwater. After three (3) rounds of sampling, contamination levels spiked to unusual levels that could be attributed to another source in addition to the former UST. The City of Miami ceased monitoring in 2005 until determining the source of rising levels of contamination. It was later determined that a nearby business may have used the monitoring wells to dump used oil from mechanical work on cars. The Site is currently under review for NFA, however it was not issued before September 30 2009.

Former Use: The City of Miami currently owns the right of way, however did not cause the contamination. Historical records indicate that the leaking UST that was removed from this property was installed in 1955 and was not removed until 1996 after the City of Miami obtained ownership. The ownership was due to a property deed that transferred ownership of all right of ways in this area so that paved sidewalks and curbs can be constructed and maintained by the City of Miami.
