Additional Property Attributes

The Children's Museum approached the City of Durango with a proposal for the museum to rehabilitate the historic Power House and turn it into the Durango Discover Museum, a new energy, science, and cultural museum. (FFP - Durango Power Plant)

Former Use: A power plant was constructed on the property between 1889 and 1893 and operating as a consistent power source for surrounding areas until its closure in 1972. In 1983, the City of Durango purchased the 6.1-acre property now known as River City Hall or Power Plant property from La Plata Electric and Colorado Ute Electric Association, Inc.
