Additional Property Attributes

This 110 year-old, 62,000 square-foot school sits vacant in the English Avenue neighborhood. The school changed owners several times since it was closed in the 1990s. Past attempts to reuse the site as a community center and for new education opportunities came up short, but the City's Brownfield Program conducted a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and Asbestos and Lead-based Paint Surveys in 2010 and 2011 in anticipation of renovations soon after. While the school remains unused, the school is a high-priority for redevelopment in the adopted Westside Land Use work (2017) by key partners, English Avenue Neighborhood Association and Westside Future Fund. The property ownership actually changed hands in 2017 to current owner, Westside Development Partners, LLC-perhaps a sign of redevelopment occurring soon.

Former Use: The subject property consists of a single parcel encompassing 3.3 acres and is located at 627 English Avenue in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. The subject site was historically developed for use as a school for the past 100 years. The main school building is a three-story structure orginally built in 1910 with several subsequent additions. A second, smaller building was constructed on the property in 1914. The total floor space of the buildings is approximately 62,000 square feet. The former property owner, City of Atlanta Board of Education, occupied the property until the closing of English Avenue Elementary School in 1995. Since that time the subject property has been vacant and is currently owned by the Greater Vine City Opportunities Program, Inc.
