Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Town of Barre acquired the property during a land swap deal with Pike Industries. The Pike Property is the location of a former granite crusher plant. The property was used to produce and stockpile granite aggregate. The majority of the lot has been disturbed. The lot was also previously home to an asphalt company before the company merged with Pike Industries. In 2006, hydraulic fluid contamination was found during a UST removal and contaminated soils were removed. However, a drinking well is located 700 feet from the previously contaminated area. Blasting activities at the adjacent quarry may have also contaminated the site?s drinking water, ground water, retention ponds or surficial soils with blasting chemicals. Although the site was issued a SMAC for the hydraulic fluid contamination by the State, further investigation and remediation is needed in a number of additional areas on the site.
