Additional Property Attributes

The site comprises 10 mining claims of 206.6 acres that were patented in 1921 and were aquired by the Tohono O'odham Nation in 2003. According to TerraNext in the 2011 report with the exception of former mining related activity including numerous barbed wire-enclosed mine shafts and unvegetated waste rock dump piles the surrounding desert is essentially pristine desert lands. Recently observed in the site vacinity are red fox, endangered species Sonoran Proghorn and Nichol's Turk's Head Cactus. A moderate tonnage of potential dump copper ore is present at the site.

Former Use: In 1906 the Copperosity Copper Co and later in 1912 the Copperosity Mining Co were incorporated for mining at this site. The site comprises 10 mining claims patented in 1921, that are owned by the Tohono O'odham Nation since 2003. Bureau of Mines estimates ore grades ranged from 2 - 30 percent copper. Newmont Exploration Ltd completed drill holes in 1966, but nothing has occured since. In 1884 a smelter was said to be built here and about 1,000 tons of ore were mined to a depth of 120 ft back then. A moderate tonnage of dump Copper oxide minerals, of a potential ore grade, are present at the site today. An estimated 3,000 feet of subsurface workings exist, with the main shaft being about 385 ft in depth. Numerous shafts are scattered thoughout the site.
