Former Use: This property has been owned by the Aurora Housing Authority since it was originally used for affordable housing for seniors and people with disabilities. Redevelopment of the site to replace outdated facilities began in 2011 and included demolition of existing buildings (with asbestos) and the construction of new affordable housing. A property assessment was conducted by EPA contractors (URS) in the Spring of 2011 and remediation and demolition (of the ENTIRE 9.4 acre site) took place in 2 stages from 2011 to 2012. Redevelopment of the entire site is also in two phases. Phase I is complete and resulted in 55 units of new housing for seniors. Phase II financing has recently been secured and construction will begin Spring 2014.
