Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Steel Casting Plant

This site was redeveloped as Brainerd Chemical Company. From the 1920's - 1960's the property housed a ferrous metal foundry, a petroleum bulk fuel plant, and an electric motor shop. In the 1970's the property was consolidated by the foundry. Oklahoma Steel Castings Company formed in 1922 and was originally located to the south of the Waite Phillips Company. When Waite Phillips sold the company, Oklahoma Steel Castings acquired the property at 1200 N Peoria. In its heyday Oklahoma Steel Castings was the largest steel castings plant west of the Mississippi River and employed 400 workers. The plant closed in 1986 and was used until 2000 as a warehouse. In 1999, the property was donated to the Tulsa Industrial Authority by Lionheart Industries. TIA soon entered into ODEQ's Voluntary Cleanup Program to address environmental issues at the site. Very little contamination was found, and what was found did not pose a risk to redevelopment of the property.
