Additional Property Attributes

Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) requested assistance from the EPA with characterizing environmental conditions at the Eiber Elementary property. DUG intends to redevelop a portion of the property as a school-based urban garden. The garden plots will be allocated to the school and the community, with produce from the gardens feeding school children and local residents. Field samples included surface and near surface (maximum depth two feet) soil samples that were analyzed for Organic Compounds (VOCs), Semivolatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs), Target Analyte List (TAL) total metals, and pesticides. Sample results indicated that the use of this plot as an urban garden is appropriate and does not pose any significant threat to the user.

Former Use: Developed as a school in 1954 when it was purchased by Jefferson County public schools and remains a school at present. Prior land use was agricultural.
