Additional Property Attributes

The Genesee River runs along the western boundary of the Site; Lake Ontario lies to the north. Several marinas are located along the Genesee River in the area immediately west of the Site. The areas immediately north, south, and east consist primarily of residential properties with a few small commercial (retail) developments. Between 1920 and 1970, the Site was developed with residential and commercial properties. A portion of the Riverfront Site north of Pattonwood Drive was used by the City as a municipal landfill beginning in the late 1940s. Landfill operations involved disposal of residential refuse, ash, slag, sewage sludge, and construction debris. The landfill, also known as the Old Rochester City Landfill, may include approximately 15,000 cubic yards of dredged material from the Genesee River and 10,000 cubic yards of sewage sludge. Currently the Site serves as an inactive landfill and marina. The landfill cover is grass and frequently maintained.

Former Use: Historically, the Site consisted of freshwater wetlands. Later uses include municipal landfill, marina, outboard/canvas repair workshop, and residential property development.
