Additional Property Attributes

According to historical data reviewed, the Property was developed by the United States government in 1942 as an emergency landing strip and, after World War II ended, the site was left vacant. These types of landing strips were common during that period and only used for touch and goes and emergencies. The government did not fuel or do any maintenance at the site. The airport was reopened in 1998. Lyon County is the current owner of the airport and leases it to Silver Springs Airport, LLC who presently operates the facility. Silver Springs Airport, LLC has built the existing hangar and office. They were the first operator to offer fuel service at the Property. Fuel is dispensed from an above ground storage tank (AST). The 10,000 gallon AST containing aviation fuel was observed on the west side of the airplane parking area during the Phase I. The AST is double walled and has an interstitial monitor. No staining was noted on the concrete around the AST or in the truck loading area. The truck loading area is recessed so if fuel is spilled during transfer, it will be contained. Additional, the hangers do not have floor drains and they are mainly used for plane storage. Some plane owners do perform minor maintenance on their planes, such as oil changes, but there are no facilities for major maintenance. Nothing was observed during Phase I to indicate issues related to the hangers. There are plans to expand the airport as new air traffic and funding is identified.

Former Use: Property was developed by the United States government in 1942 as an emergency landing strip. In 1963, the U.S. Government transferred ownership of the Property to Glenn and Jean Williams who owned it until 1973. Lyon County owned the Property from 1973 to 1983. Lyon County transferred the land to the Bureau of Land Management in 1983. In 1986, the BLM transferred the Property to the Lahontan Airport Development Program, which opened the airport in 1989. Lyon County is the current owner of the airport and leases it to Silver Springs Airport, LLC who presently operates the facility.
