Additional Property Attributes

The site is currently a closed municipal landfill owned by the City of Dakota City, Nebraska. The property is currently surrounded by residential properties to the north, an agricultural field to the south, and the Missouri River to the east. Soil samples collected from the site contained VOCs, SVOCs, PAHs and RCRA metals; however, none of the detected VOC or SVOC analytes was detected at concentrations exceeding its NDEQ RG. Arsenic was the only RCRA metal that exceeded NDEQ RG and is likely attributed to the average concentration of arsenic in Dakota County soil. The groundwater samples contained VOCs and barium both below NDEQ RGs. Soil gas samples revealed a high concentration of methane in the soil and could potentially cause an explosion, but methane typically diffuses rapidly into the ambient air so the threat is minimal. A contaminants found in the Phase III, that was not found in the Phase II, and was above NDEQ RGs was one soil sample containing mercury. The site was historically used as an unpermitted municipal landfill from at least the 1960s until approximately 1981. The site is owned by the city of Dakota City.
