Additional Property Attributes

Asbestos and lead-based paint (LBP) have been identified as contaminants present at the property. Non-friable asbestos and LBP (via encapsulation) could potentially be left in place with implementation of a maintenance plan. The contract for removal and disposal of asbestos-containing material at the Cut Bank Old Mercantile began on October 24, 2016 and was completed on March 28,2017. Asbestos abatement activities to be completed at a future date are the abatement and disposal of 2,000 square feet of black, grey, and white shingles and miscellaneous roofing materials containing asbestos, abatement and disposal of 1,000 square feet of black and grey tar and miscellaneous roofing materials containing asbestos, and abatement and disposal of 550 square feet of grey fibrous materials containing asbestos from under the second-floor apartment siding.

Former Use: The property was built in 1919 as Hosea Meat Market. It became Golden Rule Store and then Penny's Store in 1930. Glacier County owns the property due to tax delinquency and was hoping to demolish the building to provide a parking area for the neighboring Cut Bank Public Drug building.
