In November of 2019, part of the first floor of this site opened as "Verada Jazz Bar" with an unknown among of private investment. In January of 2020, Verada had to close due to earthquake damage to the structure that left it unsafe. The main structure is a two story building with an interior patio and a one story structure that at present is abandoned. Adjacent properties are mainly commercial. The site is on the National Register of Historic Places. At present the house is vacant. This property belonged to the Vives family. The Vives family was a prominent family in the municipality of Ponce. They owned the Hacienda Buena Vista, which was an important coffee farm in southern Puerto Rico. Salvador de Vives Rod� was the first owner of the residence, who was a Puerto Rican politician and Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico from 1840 to 1842 and then again from 1844 to 1845. In the conducted Phase I ESA, consultants recommended a future asbestos and lead survey prior to any demolition or construction activity. Former Use: This is an historic residential property with possible contamination of lead paint and asbestos. The property is close to other commercial properties in use, in front of the Farmers Market and nearby properties with historic architectural value, and contextual urban awareness / contribution. The site was constructed in the mid 1800?s. At present the house is vacant. This property belonged to the Vives family. The Vives family was a prominent family in the municipality of Ponce.
