Additional Property Attributes

The BCRLF allowed for the cleanup of over 42,500 square feet of asbestos-containing floor tile and mastic, surface material/drywall, concrete, and surfacing texture/block filler; as well as over 580 linear feet of asbestos-containing pipe wrap insulation and thermal system insulation. Construction is now underway and the 100,000 square foot building is being converted into an urban market with 50 local, independent tenants: a range of restaurants and food-related businesses, daycare, fitness entities, boutiques, offices, hair salon/barber shop, and dentist. Opening is anticipated in summer 2016. The redevelopment reuses one of the key historic industrial buildings in the city and will bring approximately 350 jobs and many more visitors to the long-overlooked Westerly Creek Village neighborhood in Northwest Aurora ? an area that was the subject of a community planning and visioning process as part of the 2010 EPA?s Brownfields Area Wide Planning Pilot Program. Former Use: Stanley Aviation opened an aerospace parts manufacturing plant at the former Stapleton International Airport in 1954. At this site, the company manufactured aircraft parts for companies such as Boeing and became one of the first companies in the United States to design, develop, and manufacture crew ejector seats for American military aircraft. The site opened as a 50,000 square-foot facility but was quickly expanded to over 100,000 square feet and at one time employed close to 1,000 skilled laborers and designers. In 2005, Eaton Corporation acquired Stanley Aviation and downsized and eventually closed the Aurora facility in 2009. Update 2020: A Phase II environmental assessment was performed on the western portion of the property (39.751124, -104.881625) to determine if a community garden is a suitable use. The analytical results of the soil testing determined that a garden is a suitable use in this specific section of the property.
