Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject property is identified as between Ivydale Road and Water Plant Road, LaFollette, Tennessee, and consists of two parcels totaling 5.81 acres. The subject property is developed with former coke ovens in the north and a one-story warehouse building totaling 899 square feet in the west-central portion. The property is not currently zoned. Standard and other historical sources were able to document that the first developed use of the property occurred in the late 1800s and early 1900s with the construction of approximately 40 coke ovens on the north-central portion of the subject property. The coke ovens were utilized by La Follete Coal and Iron Company until approximately the 1920s. A railroad was present on the northern boundary of the subject property during this time. A concrete structure with in-ground piping was identified in the ground on the southwestern portion. A second concrete circular structure, but located above-ground, was identified on the northeastern portion of the property. It is unknown whether additional structures were previously present on the subject property. In 1960, the property was developed with a small warehouse building on the west-central portion. According to assessing records, the property was utilized as an animal shelter/kennel, however the dates of occupancy are unknown. The building is currently vacant.
