Shorter College is a private, faith-based, two-year liberal arts college located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Founded in 1886 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Shorter College is one of the nation's 110 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and the only private, two-year HBCU in the nation. With a Fall 2014 enrollment of over 400 students, Shorter College is the fastest growing campus is Central Arkansas. Shorter College CDC has requested a Phase I Assessment to identify potential hazardous conditions located in and around Sherman-Tyree Hall, the primary administration/educational building. The CDC is concerned that due to the age of the building (construction in 1961), lead paint, asbestos, and mold contamination is a high possibility, which reflects the typical building materials used during that construction period; structural renovations have not occurred since the buildings construction.
