Additional Property Attributes

The tribe plans to restore the property to its natural state and reuse it for cultural ceremonies and open space. Redevelopment of the property will help with the public health and safety threats that abandoned facilities pose, such as illegal dumping. No contaminants of concern were detected in site soil samples above project screening levels. Debris and trash throughout the dragway and buried in the gravel pit were determined to be nonhazardous construction and household waste. It is recommended that the debris be disposed at an appropriate landfill.

Former Use: The site was native desert land prior to the late 1950s and early 1960s when it was developed as a gravel pit and dragway for recreational and competitive drag racing. The dragway property is approximately one mile long and currently consists of native desert land and two large asphalt pads. The the gravel pit property to the north is approximately ten acres. Operations at the Beeline Dragway ceased in January 1979, and the dragstrip was demolished in the 1980s. After the dragway closed, the majority of the debris from the demolition, including concrete, asphalt and general building materials, was placed in the gravel pit.
