Additional Property Attributes

The original building was built in 1912 and is located in the Belt Commercial Historic District. The building has not undergone any renovation or rehabilitation until now, and is currently listed as being in poor to fair condition. The Belt Theater site is composed of a three-story building which is approximately 11,520 square feet (sf). The building exterior is constructed of concrete, masonry blocks, brick, and mortar. The structure has a flat built-up roof, and multiple types of flooring materials. Due to the age of construction of the building, lead-based paint, asbestos, and/or PCB-containing light ballasts may be present.

Former Use: The property is owned by the Belt Theater Company. The Belt Theater building was originally constructed in 1912 as the Masonic Hall. The first theatre in the building was the Pythian Theatre, located on the first floor and operated in the early-1920?s. In 1932 the theatre was renamed the Palace Theatre and became the Belt Theatre in 1941. The last movie was shown in the theater in the 1960s and the building has remained vacant since. The Belt Theater Company plans to fully restore the historical theater building so it may be used as a theater once again.
