Additional Property Attributes

The Former Diamond Candle Factory property was used as a paper mill in the early 1800s, as a woolen mill under different owners from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s, and as a candle manufacturing factory (Diamond Candle Factory) from 1942 to 1980. The subject property was improved with various buildings to accommodate these manufacturing processes and included mill races to supply power to the facilities using water from Quassaick Creek. The property has been the location of three documented fires that occurred in 1889, 1893, and 1980. After the last fire in 1980, many buildings were demolished, and the subject property became vacant. Remaining structures on the subject property include a one-story storage building (formerly Storage building #1) under the Mill Street Bridge, a dry pit formerly used as a reservoir in the central portion of the subject property, a brick chimney in the eastern portion of the subject property, and various pipes protruding from the ground surface.

Former Use: In 1998, property ownership was transferred from Twin Bridge Group to Orange County, the current owner. The subject property does not presently have a formal designated use.
