Additional Property Attributes

The Site is located in a residential area of Lewistown, MT just north of Big Spring Creek. The property contains a two-story home and an adjacent garage. The property has recently been acquired by Fergus County under a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant program for mitigating properties prone to inundation due to consistent flooding. The Phase II ESA identified ACM, LBP, and lead impacted surface soils at the Site. Re-use of the Site will be as a greenspace or park. Remediation options evaluated included controlled burn by City and County Public Works or traditional demolition.

Former Use: The property had a log cabin, tavern, and stage stop. The garage was used for horses at one time. Most recently, the property was residential with a home and detached garage. Due to flooding, current plans are to demolish the buildings and have greenspace in the flood zone. Fergus County purchased the property from Ardys Couch. The past property ownership history includes Ardys Couch, John Couch(1992), John and Lorraine Couch (1980-1992), Gregory Cork and Patricia Cork (1968-1980), Matthew Vaughn (1957-1968), C.B Walters and Elizabeth Walters (1944-1957), Gregory Chambers and Nola Chambers.
