Additional Property Attributes

Bent County would like to conduct renovation activities on Building 503, 504 and 507 (3 of the 6 Officers' Row Buildings) at the Ft. Lyon Facility. These three buildings are two-story duplex homes located on C Street. Historically, these buildings housed the officers and generals when Fort Lyon was a division of the Us Army . These buildiings continued to be utilized as home, but are currently vacant. These homes are prominently situated on the north side of the Parade Ground. Based on previous investigations, asbestos-containing material (ACM) and lead-based paint (LBP) had previously been identified in the building. This TBA included an ACM survey to determine and/or refine the locations and extents of ACM at the buildings and visual inspections for PCBs, mercury, and mold. For this TBA project, all paint inside the building was considered LBP. Contaminants identified in the building were ACM.

Former Use: The Fort Lyon Facility property consists of 512 acres with approx. 55 residential buildings and a large community building. Fort Lyon dates back to 1868 when it was used as a U.S. Army Fort. The Fort Lyon Facility property has also been used as a TB sanatorium, VA Hospital, and correctional facility. The campus is currently owned by Colorado Department of Personnel and Administration and Bent County manages the property.
