The site is currently vacant, but is developed with the former American House Spinning textile mill facility, including a main facility consisting of an original building with several additions, a boiler room, a chemical storage building, a water testing shed, a wastewater pond and a water tower.

Former Use: According to information from the Pickens County Geographical Information System (GIS), the approximately 88-acre site consists of two parcels (Pickens County Parcel Nos. 4065-13-14-8286 and 4065-09-15-5545) is located at 356 Mauldin Road in Central, Pickens County, South Carolina. The site is currently vacant, but is developed with the former American House Spinning textile mill facility, including a main facility consisting of an original building with several additions, a boiler room, a chemical storage building, a water testing shed, a wastewater pond and a water tower. Based on a review of historical information, the site consisted of farmland and wooded areas from the 1930s until the 1950s, when the Main Building portion of the current textile mill facility was constructed, along with a Boiler Room, a water tower and paved parking areas and drives. Several additions to the facility were constructed in 1964, 1971 and in the 1980s. Based on a review of a 1972 site-specific fire insurance diagram, several heating oil tanks were located near the northeastern corner of the Boiler Room. Additional improvements to the site have included a wastewater pond in the 1970s and an electrical substation in the 1990s. Pratt Read & Company reportedly owned the site from at least the time of construction of the Main Building until 1986, and conducted piano key manufacturing operations at the facility. American House Spinning purchased the site in 1986 and utilized the facility for yarn manufacturing until 2002; the facility has remained vacant since.
