Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site operated as a railroad right-of-way from the late 1800s until the 1970s when the freight terminal to the north was removed and the city constructed the Civic Center building. The City of Wheeling later paved over the railroad tracks to make an asphalt walking trail (Wheeling Heritage Trail) with a 50 foot limit (25? from centerline) for clearing and grubbing (trailside grassy area). Vestiges of the former railroad tracks are present where they cross Wheeling Creek at the Site. The central part of the Site consists of a gravel lot currently used for parking and temporary laydown area for construction. Access to the Site is unrestricted which allows for unlimited motor vehicle and pedestrian encroachment. Wheeling?s Heritage Trail System passes through parcels W58-2 and W58-3 and the paved rail-trail is frequented by public users including walkers and cyclists. Site access is currently unrestricted from Main Street.
