Additional Property Attributes

Terracon was contracted out by the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas to conduct a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) of the property located at Northwest of the intersection of 130th Street & Goldfinch Road, Horton, Brown County, Kansas. The assessment revealed a recognized environmental condition (REC) or potential presence of hazardous substance as potential releases associated with the historical activities associated with the illegal dump on site. After thorough review and verification by the Kickapoo Environmental Office, additional assessment and subsurface investigation is required.

Former Use: The site is located east of the intersection of 160th and Dogwood Rd. near Horton, Kansas. The site consists of vacant land with a small bridge located on 160th Street spanning an intermittent creek. The site is approximately three acres in size and contains no structures. Based on a review of the historical information, the site and the land surrounding the site has been vacant agricultural land located on the Kickapoo Indian Reservation in Kansas since at least 1894. Historical topographic maps and aerial images depict the site as being vacant land with an apparent stream running through the site. Based on information obtained during a historical interview, the site had been utilized for illegal dumping activities. Potential releases associated with illegal surface dumping constitute a REC to the site. The site has and is owned by the Kickapoo Tribe.
