Additional Property Attributes

The property is used by the City of Whitefish for snow storage during the winter months and also contains community recycling bins. The City of Whitefish and the nonprofit, Homeword, are considering residential housing on the property. The western portion of the property is located in a State of Montana CECRA Site known as the Burlington Northern Facility Whitefish (BNFW). This Phase II identified SVOCs and metals in the surface soil above MDEQ benchmarks and VOCs in soil gas above MDEQ benchmarks. Also, lead and barium in groundwater exceeded MDEQ's water quality standards.

Former Use: The 1.64 acre Site owned by the City of Whitefish is located in a mixed-use residential, industrial, recreational, and public facilities area in the City of Whitefish, MT. The Site is primarily undeveloped with community recycling bins,a gravel parking area, snow storage use, and Columbia Avenue located along the western boundary of the Site. During previous ownership by Burlington Northern (prior to 2015), the Site was used for the occasional staging of moving/storage containers/pods. The northern boundary of the Site is immediately adjacent to BNSF railroad property and rail yard. The western portion of the property, consisting of Columbia Avenue and a sliver of land to the east of Columbia Avenue, is located within the BNFW CECRA State Superfund site boundary.
