Additional Property Attributes

The fire department training facility at the end of Lola Street is gated and surrounded with a barbed wire fence. The Site is developed with a house currently used as offices and classroom; a concrete, 4-story fire training tower and large garage; a soft covered carport at the east side of the house; a metal-covered carport east of the soft-covered carport; a shipping container used as changing rooms beneath the steel-covered carport; a restroom; a concrete structure with stacked shipping containers used for training exercises; a single-story building; and shipping containers with windows used for training exercises. A concrete step manufacturer formerly operated at the property northwest of the intersection of Alvarado and Lola Streets.

Former Use: Historical records indicate the Lola Street Site was undeveloped before 1960. The Grant Deed for the property indicates that the property was transferred from the Caterpillar Tractor Company to the Central Building Company in 1951. The Central Building Materials Company transferred ownership of the property to the City of San Leandro in 1964. According to historical aerial photographs, the Site was undeveloped from 1939 to between 1968 and 1974, with the exception of disturbed soil at the southern portion of the Site and dirt roads leading from the adjacent property to the south, as shown in the 1958 aerial photograph. The firefighting training facility was constructed between 1968 and 1974. The Site use prior to 1939 is unknown. The 777 Alvarado Street Site was utilized as a concrete company (Bertelson Pre-Cast Steps) from the early 1960s to 2002. In 2015, ownership of the Alvarado Street Site parcel was transferred from the Oliver Partnership to the City of San Leandro. Aerial photographs indicate the Site was undeveloped from 1939 to 1958, with the exception of disturbed soil at the southern portion of the Site with dirt roads leading from the adjacent property to the south, as shown in the 1958 aerial photograph. The concrete company building was constructed between 1958 and 1963. The Site use prior to 1939 is unknown.
