Additional Property Attributes

The Site is situated on the west side of South Elm Avenue and bordered by Fresno Colony Canal (underground culvert) to the north and west and a large stormwater retention/groundwater recharge basin to the southwest. Residential homes are located immediately northwest of the canal and south along South Elm Avenue. The Site is currently vacant with one unused existing building on the southeastern portion of the property. The ground surface at the Site is primarily exposed dirt with several concrete pads in poor condition. Northwest of the existing building is a concrete pad that appears to have been a wash pad. The center of the pad has inlet to a small oil/water separator.

Former Use: Historically, the Site was developed with an automobile wrecking yard (Globe Auto Wreckers) from approximately 1950 to the late 2000s. Prior use of the Site was for agricultural/pasture or undeveloped land. The wrecking yard facility included four structural improvements, a wood d office, a building with a concrete wash pad, an open-front wood and metal building and a building of unknown construction. On historical aerial photographs taken during Globe Auto Wreckers operations, several hundred vehicles are shown parked in rows across most of the Site. Figures 3 and 4 have a 2002 aerial photo as a background with a typical auto storage configuration; however, the entire Site was used for auto storage over the operational period of the facility. Operations at the Site ceased in the late 2000s, and most of the wrecked vehicles were removed by 2012. The small office building was removed sometime between 2016 and 2017.
